“How do you keep up with everything required to run a successful real estate business?”
That’s the number one question I get from new agents and honestly, even seasoned ones ask it too. Real estate is demanding. Between showings, marketing, calls, contracts, and family, it can feel like there’s never enough time.
Over the years, I’ve learned that time isn’t something you manage, but something you master. After 25 years in the business, raising three kids, managing investment properties, and leading a team, I’ve made it my mission to build systems that keep me focused and balanced. Here’s what works for me:
1. Time blocking. Set aside time each morning to batch similar tasks, lead generation, follow-ups, or marketing, and focus on one category at a time.
I like 45 to 60-minute blocks, followed by a 10 to 15-minute reset break. That rhythm keeps your energy high and your focus sharp. Your brain doesn’t need to switch gears constantly, and you’ll get more done in less time.
2. Know your priorities. Every task matters, but not every task matters equally. I go through my to-do list and mark my top-priority items. These are the things that move my business forward, and for me, those are non-negotiable.
I never end a day without completing my top priorities. Everything else can wait or be delegated. If you’re on a team or have support staff, assign secondary tasks so you can focus on the work that actually generates income and builds relationships.
3. Be consistent. This is where most agents struggle. We all start with great schedules but only follow them for a week, and that’s not enough.
Long-term consistency is what separates the busy from the successful. Get up at the same time. Dress like a professional, go to the office, make your calls, and do your lead generation every single day.
Over time, those small, steady actions compound. That’s how you go from closing a few homes a year to building a career.
